Taking a Moment
…To kind of rant about fandoms. (I haven’t done that in a while. XD) I’ve been thinking about it since I got those asks yesterday. Even though I found them amusing, it got me thinking about the mindset that some fans of AKB48 and other fandoms have. I’ve noticed it in other fandoms too, Arashi included, but it seems to be most vocal from the AKB48 fans. But that might just be the case because of my own personal experiences, so I could be wrong.
Anyway…
I think certain fans have this idea that because their idols are popular, they’re immediately considered “better” and have the right to call other groups, who are not as popular, awful names and harass people who like them.
It’s…really not cool, and not only reflects badly on their character, but on their entire fandom as well.
I was introduced to AKB48 when I was still part of the H!P fandom. They weren’t really appealing to me, so I moved on. I saw them again, when they were starting to get popular…still wasn’t interested, and I probably never will be. But whatever, people can like what they want. Good for them.
Then these comments about H!P being dead and being awful just because their groups aren’t popular any more started showing up…
They baffle me, really.
I’m an Arashi fan. I became their fan when they weren’t nearly as well-known as they are now, and I know that their current popularity isn’t going to last forever either.
So, when Arashi isn’t the biggest thing any more, am I going to abandon them for whatever “replaces” them? Fuck no. That thought probably wouldn’t even enter my head because their popularity isn’t what makes me love them.
The entertainment industry is changing all the time. Certain things can become popular, lose all of that popularity, and then make a sudden comeback a few years later.
In the next few years, Morning Musume could suddenly become really popular again and people could forget all about AKB48. It’s possible. That’s how the industry is.
I think basing something’s value entirely on how much promotion they get and how much they sell is kind of stupid, really. Sales are just numbers. Something that has had a high number of sales isn’t necessarily good. I’m not going to rate the things I like solely by the number of units that get sold.
I just wish this fandom bashing would stop. I know it’s not going to happen because there’s always going to be obnoxious people trying to put others down, but I still find myself wishing for this all the time.
Everyone’s different. We’re all going to like different things. That’s what makes life interesting. We don’t need to attack each other for that.
Welp, that’s it. Rant done. Just needed to get all my thoughts out. I know this post isn’t going to make a difference anyway. People are going to continue attacking each other for their interests no matter what I say.~
Off to study while listening to the magical rainbow-coloured boys who make me happy.~
